Computers for Kids
The goal of the Saratoga Mentoring Program's Computers for Kids project
is to install used, but up-to-date, computer systems in the homes of all
children participating in the program.
We have received an enthusiastic response to our request for computers, with donations of more than 80 used computers since 1996.
The success of this initiative is due in large part to the generosity of local businesses and civic organizations such as the Lions Club and Rotary International.
The Lions Club not only has helped get computers into children's homes, it has also been instrumental in developing a mini computer lab that youth can use right in the Mentoring Program's office. And with a large color printer donated by Rotary, children can design and print posters for a number of local non-profit groups.
We are still seeking donations of "gently used" computer equipment
and software programs for our youth. We thank all who wish to help out,
but humbly request only IBM compatible computers with pentium processors,
capable of running Windows 95. The program also seeks working inkjet and
laser printers, and computer supplies for the kids, including power strips,
modems, discs, mouse pads, speakers, and computer paper!
